Trivia Contest #2:
My Japanese friend taught me this piece of trivia:
Who was the last samurai?
For your correct answer, you will win an authentic Japanese prize...
This way I can make sure the prize fits the person! Thanks for playing!

From what I hear its either Tom Cruise or Takamori Saigo. I want it to be Uma Thurman in a tight yellow leather outfit. My soon to be brother in law in law has some swords so maybe it's him. Sometimes when I get a fruity drink at a fancy resaurant there is a little plastic sword in it that I wave around so it could be me. You live in Japan now, so maybe it's you. I've seen B cook, he's pretty good with a knife. This is hard. Not sure if I even remember the question. Time for bed. -DW
SaigÅ Takamori
Well, you are both correct, although I would've accepted "Tom Cruise," since that is the answer my Japanese friend fooled me with. I sat there seriously pondering the question, thinking I should probably learn this, and when she said Tom Cruise, we both had a good laugh. So I will be sending you both prizes! Lucky for you the big base bazaar is this weekend, so stay tuned to learn what you've won! (Send any requests for Japanese goods before Saturday AM!)
P.S. Not 100% sure if it's Dave or Danielle, although I'm pretty sure it's Dave. :)
Nice job Googling and Wikiing guys!But...technically you're both wrong. After the last stand of the samurai in 1877, Takamori Saigo was wounded and committed suicide in the samurai tradition. Then the remaining samurai beheaded each other. So nobody really knows exactly who the last samurai was! I wonder how he died? He couldn't have been beheaded if there weren't any other samurai left to do the job!
BTW - I'm trying REALLY hard to get the image of Dave with a fruity drink in a fancy restaurant waving a plastic sword out of my head!
Brian :)
You are not sure if it was Dave or Danielle? Of course it was Dave. I mean, Danielle was there. Rolling her eyes. Shaking her head.
But 100% Dave.
Though I was probably only 50% there, was pretty tired after all. So 100% of 50% of Dave. Though at baseline I am only about 75% (always good to keep a reserve). So 100% of 50% of 75% of Dave.
0% Tom Cruise.
Danielle merely present and likely wondering why she married me.
Oh, and by the way, the prize is a Hattori Hanzo sword, right?
Dave, we're pretty sure you're "0% Hero," so no to the sword. :) Sorry, you'll have to settle for a couple of Japanese beer mugs. (They're ceramic and have a rough surface on the inside to produce more bubbles, or gas as the Japanese say...)
My bad....the sword from Heroes is a Takezo Kensai samurai sword. The Hattori Hanzo samurai sword you referred to is from Kill Bill.
Not that it really matters because you won't be getting either one of them Dave! Sorry! But what do really expect when you only put in 37.5% Dave?
Aren't your parents still waiting for something along the lines of 50%Dave & 50%Danielle? Just checking! :)
B
So we are working on the starter kid...a dog. Thats good enough for us right now.
Oh, and 37.5% of me is like a good 42.3% of most people so lets away with the strict math. I'm in America, dude, and fuzzy math is how we do it here. I believe you voted for fuzzy math, didn't you?
Oh, and I like bubbles.
Mmmmm....bubbles.
Danielle doesn't seem to think I need more gas. Too late, gas making ceramic mugs are on the way! (thanks, we love you Norwoods)
Laura, while I'm sure you'd be equally pleased with gas producing beer mugs, I figured that'd be more of a gift for Georg. So, I picked out a set of 3 serving plates with a Cherry Blossom pattern for you. Hope you enjoy!
I just wanted you two to know that Zachary is reading a magic tree house book that takes place in the ancient city of Japan (Edo) in the 1600s where two kids are sneaking around in the imperial garden. How cool was that! I could show him your photos and he could relate to what was in the book. He thinks its cool. Love ya.
Laura
You know, I am reading a book about sex, drugs and cocoa puffs while Laura (whom I don't know but hello and congrats on co-winning the contest) presumably has a kid reading a book about an ancient city in Japan. Strikes me funny. That kid is going places, great places, to do wonderfull things, make a difference.
I'm going to LA next week. A place that's the exact opposite of where Zachary is going.
This is kinda depressing. If only I had special ceramic mug that makes beer extra fizzy to drink my blues away...
Oh well, will just go to bed.
Dave
Hang on for a few more days, Dave, the mugs are on their way. Hope they arrive before your trip.
