Well, technically Ami was the only real supertaster among us. This she knows from her R&D work at McCormick. The rest of us just ate a lot. Here are a few Japanese foods and drinks Pete and Ami tried during their visit:
Sushi
Sake
Ramen
"Waffle bites"
Yakiniku
Chu-hi
"A Candied Kyoho Grape on a Stick"
Tsukiji fish market sushi
Tako (octopus) balls
Izakaya (pub food)
Okonomiyaki
Yakitori
Miso soup
"Cold Tofu"
Green Tea Ice Cream
Yuzu Ice Cream
Yuzu honey
Anpan
Mochi
Tempura
Japanese curry
Yuba
Fried Oysters
And everyone's favorite: Natto!

ugh...natto...still trying to get that taste out of my mouth
Great list! and here's a few others...
Soba
Udon
Tonkatsu (one of my faves!)
Yuzu sours (another one of my faves!)
The sweet fried tofu thing stuffed with rice (yummy!)
The tiny, wormy-looking, silver fishies with one-eye (not nearly as nasty as they look, but won't really miss this one!)
Loads of daikon (mm mmm good)
Lotus root
Purple sweet potato!
Brown rice ice cream (still trying to decide if I liked this one)
Anago
Octopus on a stick (Pete, not me)
Calpis (kinda tasty)
Shochu (not so easily purchased in the states...bummer)
A wide variety of unknown pickled items
Chocolate covered mushroom cookies
Unknown quantities of beer (the beer with lunch habit was a hard one to break coming back)
So many foods, so little time!
Thanks for doubling my food list, Ami! It's even more impressive now--I can't believe we/you managed to try all these things in two weeks! We really enjoyed showing you and Pete around and spending time with you. You were easy house guests(not that we were in a house much)! So, don't touch my mustache, or "do-i-tash-i-mash-te" as the Japanese would say!
